Eid on 12th or 13th of May, 2021: College will be closed

Dear Parents and Carers,
Re: Ramadan Mubarak and Eid Closure
I would like to firstly take this opportunity and wish those families who are fasting a Ramadan Mubarak.
Phoenix College celebrates the religious festivals of all its students including Eid-ul-Fitr.
Phoenix College will be closing for one day in recognition of the Muslim festival of
Eid-ul-Fitr. This includes Phoenix Upper School, Satellite Classes Marner and Bow, and Phoenix College.
As you may be aware, that the Islamic calendar follows the lunar calendar and actual sighting of the moon is often used to determine the date of occasions like Eid. Therefore, it is anticipated that Eid-ul-Fitr could fall on 12th or 13th of May 2021.
As a result, it is not possible to offer an earlier confirmation when Eid closure will be as this is subject to the sighting of the moon.
Phoenix will therefore notify all parents through College Comms/App and College Website the night before. It will also be on the East London Mosque Website.
Transport will be notified not to pick up students during Eid day closure. College will re-open the day after Eid and transport will resume normal service. Students may wear their Eid clothes if they wish to do so when they return after Eid.
Thank you for your understanding.

Interim Head of Phoenix College
