
After opening in September 2019, 5 cohorts have graduated Project SEARCH QMUL with the site being awards a national award in 2023 for it’s amazing success rate of graduates going into employment.
The onsite team at QMUL have managed to secure rotations in over 30 departments across the university ranging from retail and catering to admin and I.T.
Admin – A whole host of departments offer admin rotations. The roles include data entry, responding to queries by phone and email, proof reading and updating documents, creating advertising material and attend meetings.
Catering – The university boasts a variety of cafes and restaurants, enabling interns to develop their customer service skills by serving customers, preparing orders of hot and cold drinks, preparing food and cleaning.
Domestics – Having clean facilities is an integral part of any business. Within QMUL, cleaning takes place across the whole site through cleaning communal areas, private spaces and washing laundry.
Grounds – The university prides itself on its appearance. The grounds team are responsible for tasks such as litter picking and weeding to the upkeep of plants across the campus.
I.T. – As the world of work transitions to being increasingly electronic, the need for smooth running I.T. equipment is higher than ever. In I.T. the intern will be responsible for helping to repair computer and other devices, reimaging new devices and assisting with customer queries.
Microbiology – An exciting opportunity for those interested in pursuing a career within science. Interns will be responsible for preparing equipment and PPE in the labs for scientists. They will sterilise equipment and mix solutions for experiments.
Portering & Post – Porters are responsible for the setup of classroom and events so involves a lot of heavy lifting and team work. Within the same team is the postal department and they are responsible for delivering all of the post across the site once it arrives.
Reception – Front of house positions are available across both sites and the role includes welcoming customers to site, giving directions, taking phone calls and responding to emails.
Shop Assistant – Working in a shop will involve the obvious tasks of working on the till, restocking the shelves and taking deliveries. However, interns are also taught how to complete stock checks and order items for the shop to sell.
