A Word From The Head 6.5.22

Dear parents and carers,

I am very excited to let you know that this week we have achieved the incredible target of getting all our students to work placements! We have now 100% of the students at Phoenix College going out to work every week and 86% of those placements are with external employers. That is an incredible achievement from our students and our Careers Team. I would like to say a huge WELL DONE to Natasha Wood (Career Lead), Alfie Begum (Enterprise Lead) and Chi Yilmaz (Employment Engagement Coordinator) – your hard work is ‘changing the game’!

EID MUBARAK!

Eid Mubarak to all the families that will be celebrating Eid this weekend. Please do share any photos or memories with us. Students will return to Phoenix College on Wednesday 4th May.

CORE BOARD TRAINING FOR PARENTS – OPEN HOUSE: 23rd JUNE

As requested by many parents and carers during our EHCP Annual Reviews, we are organizing our first training for parents on the 23rd June.

Core Boards are a fundamental communication tool for many of our students and it would be great if you could attend this session. We are hosting two trainings on that day: one between 3.30-4.30 and one between 5.00-6.00.

Please save the date!

SWIMMING AT THE OLYMPIC PARK

Next week we will resume our swimming courses at the Olympic Park. Those sessions are not only important for students to stay healthy while developing social skills but they are also a great opportunity for students to improve their personal care skills and routines. All students should bring in their swimming bags to college on Wednesday 4th May: please send in a swimming gear, a towel, shampoo and conditioner, soap and a comb or brush.

THIS WEEK

Shakel was modelling a calm and focussed adult behaviour to the whole class this week. He reminded his friends many times how important is to listen to each other.

Sanjida has had a really positive week at College. One of her termly targets has been to work with less familiar peers and she has been progressing with this really well, engaging in group discussions with her peers. Keep up the good work Sanjida!

Syeda started going to a salon in South London, Mirlinda, as part of our Hair and Beauty course with Elena and Patrick. She had a hair treatment just like the ones we have been learning about during lessons and really enjoyed herself! She will be going weekly and hopefully putting into practice what she is learning in our theory lessons.
