A Word From The Head 29.4.22

Dear parents and carers,

I am very excited to let you know that this week we have achieved the incredible target of getting all our students to work placements! We have now 100% of the students at Phoenix College going out to work every week and 86% of those placements are with external employers. That is an incredible achievement from our students and our Careers Team. I would like to say a huge WELL DONE to Natasha Wood (Career Lead), Alfie Begum (Enterprise Lead) and Chi Yilmaz (Employment Engagement Coordinator) – your hard work is ‘changing the game’!

EID MUBARAK!

Eid Mubarak to all the families that will be celebrating Eid this weekend. Please do share any photos or memories with us. Students will return to Phoenix College on Wednesday 4th May.

CORE BOARD TRAINING FOR PARENTS – OPEN HOUSE: 23rd JUNE

As requested by many parents and carers during our EHCP Annual Reviews, we are organizing our first training for parents on the 23rd June.

Core Boards are a fundamental communication tool for many of our students and it would be great if you could attend this session. We are hosting two trainings on that day: one between 3.30-4.30 and one between 5.00-6.00.

Please save the date!

SWIMMING AT THE OLYMPIC PARK

Next week we will resume our swimming courses at the Olympic Park. Those sessions are not only important for students to stay healthy while developing social skills but they are also a great opportunity for students to improve their personal care skills and routines. All students should bring in their swimming bags to college on Wednesday 4th May: please send in a swimming gear, a towel, shampoo and conditioner, soap and a comb or brush.

A WORD FROM THE COLLEGE ADMINISTRATOR: ANNUAL REVIEWS

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to all the parents and carers who attended our EHCP Annual Reviews recently.

Your input on how our students learn and behave at home, what are their likes and dislikes outside of college, what improvements you have seen at home and what next steps we should be working on is very important for us. That helps our team to improve the planning for our courses and manage activities that best meet student’s needs.

Your positive feedback on the programme at Phoenix College shows that we are on the right path and your input as parents and carers is a huge part of the achievements from our students.

Let’s all celebrate together! 😊

THIS WEEK

P1 has been learning about clean air in Environmental Action. Saira has shown amazing understanding of this topic, using a straw to blow air which then moved the paper in the tray. We are working on learning that the air we breathe needs to be clean in order for us to stay healthy.

We have also been practicing breathing exercises with the help of this Youtube video which you could try at home:

P1 Team

Hamda is becoming a great role model to her peers in P2. Throughout the week she has displayed excellent communication skills during lessons, leading by example with excellent demonstrations of social skills and by offering help to her fellow peers in College and offsite. Keep up the good work, Hamda! Darren Serrano-Griffiths, Fitness Instructor

P3 had a very good Travel and Tourism lesson with our new teacher, Alice Lund, this week. All students showed great focus and finished the task on time. Joshua collected many tourist attractions and found out where these places are specifically. Frank, eLearning Instructor
