A Word From The Head 10.9.2021

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome to the new academic year! I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you as the new College Principal.

I have been working with students with special educational needs for the last twenty-two years in different settings – primary, secondary, college, residential and day settings. For the last eight years I have worked as the Head for two other specialist colleges in London and I am extremely excited to join Phoenix this academic year.

Since being appointed for this role back in March, I have been working alongside the college team on transitions. The team working with your child is full of passion, professionalism and talent and we are all working hard to deliver an outstanding provision to all students.

My focus for this year will be further developing our curriculum and making sure that all students attend work experiences and work placements. Our aim is that every student will leave Phoenix College with a job!

THIS WEEK
Students settled in very well after the summer break. During all my learning walks this week I saw students engaged in lessons and already learning new skills. The highlight of the week was to see students making scented candles during our Crafworks lessons. All the products created by our students will be displayed for sale during our Winter Fair in December.

TIMETABLE
We are implementing a new timetable that gives all students the chance to access specialised teaching in different areas – please see it attached. Let me know of your views on the new courses and if you have any specific suggestions for your child’s programme.

WORK PLACEMENTS
All work placements will start next week. Students are already engaged in work placements at our local library and parks. An exciting start of the term!

TESTING FOR STUDENTS
All college students should be tested twice per week following the new government guidelines. We are sending testing kits home with your child. Please let me know if you need any support with that.
