A Word From The Head 07.01.22

Dear parents and carers,

Students were very busy last week at Phoenix College – you will see some great photos of students achieving their targets below. Students were also busy preparing for the Student Led Conferences – we are looking forward to welcoming all parents to the building tomorrow.

Please remember that all visitors will need to show proof of a negative lateral flow test or to be tested at arrival.

STUDENT LED CONFERENCES – 08th February (1pm to 5pm)

A student-led conference is a pre-planned meeting in which students demonstrate responsibility for their academic performance by providing a review of their work for parents and teachers. We are hosting our first Student Led Conferences tomorrow!

BEHAVIOUR AND MEDICAL NEEDS

Please do write on the Communication Book or call us in the morning if your child does not feel well or show any unexpected behaviours before coming into college. That will help our team to prepare the right level of support for the day.

TESTING AT HOME

All students are encouraged to take a lateral flow test at home twice per week: on Sunday and Tuesday evening.

Please do let us know if you need more tests and do not forget to register the results on the NHS website:

THIS WEEK

Last week in our Catering course, Kamal worked on his cooking skills by stirring and peeling. Kamal worked with Anila, our TA at P1, using the core board to support him following instructions while making different dishes.

Our Fitness specialist, Darren, delivered an excellent new Boxercise class with P3 students last week. All of the students really enjoyed the release that this form of exercise gave them. Joshua (P3) was enjoying himself so much that he managed to finish the whole 45-minute class without taking a break. By practicing popular forms of group exercise like Boxercise in college, students have the skills and the confidence to access similar classes outside of college; this helps to develop vital, sustainable links in their local communities.

Maryam (P2) has been engaging and participating in lessons a lot more lately. In the images on the left, you can see Maryam participating in relay races in Victoria Park with her peers and working with different students in a work based activity. Maryam seems to be enjoying college a lot recently!
